Trailside Yoga Virginia

In an effort to further foster the growth of our mountain biking community, FAMBE coordinated a “Meet, Eat, and Ride” event with our friends from the Culpeper Area Mountain Biking Organization (CAMBO) at Burke Farm in Culpeper, Virginia. Not only would this give all of us an opportunity to hang out, it will also give riders an opportunity to ride the trails (maybe for the first time), while preparing them for what they will encounter if they choose to race the Battle at Burke mountain bike race in August.

The preliminary goals were very specific; simply to have a great time on the trails, meet new riders, and enjoy eating some good local chow.

We met and exceeded those preliminary goals. We started the day by adding a Yoga for Cyclists class from 0830-0930. This class was fine tuned to focus on specific poses in the practice that would stretch the muscles, while preparing the body and mind for the ride. Thanks to Laura Maple for an awesome practice! After the yoga class finished, riders that didn’t partake in the yoga class began to arrive. At 1000, after a quick discussion of the ride plans, and a nice group shot, we all took off towards the part that truly connects us all…Yes, if you guessed being on two wheels in the woods on awesome single track; YOU were correct! Each group varied in skill and pace, and took off for the trails in separate directions. After about two fun filled hours of riding, we all enjoyed some spectacular barbeque from Shawn’s Smoke House, which was served with the sides, desserts, and drinks right at the trailside. Special thanks to Bike Stop in Culpeper for supporting our event, and all the CAMBO family for being the glue to make this stick.

We all look forward to the next event, whether it be a group ride, race, or other; and we look forward to the new relationships that were made today by simply communicating our passion through this sport we all love!
