anne-prenatalWe are delighted to offer a prenatal and postnatal teacher training with Anne Thiel and Carol Collins. These training sessions are an ideal continuation for students who have attended Tranquil Space’s Level 1 or Level 2 training, but are also open to those with no prior teaching experience. We will cover important background knowledge about the pre- and postnatal body, discuss the concepts of pre- and postnatal yoga and teaching philosophies, create a sample practice and practice teaching to each other.

  • the discipline to be fully present at all training sessions in order to develop the skills necessary for teaching prenatal and postnatal yoga students.
  • completed teacher training application and deposit
  • attending one prenatal or one postnatal class and writing a class review

Prenatal yoga day 1: what is prenatal yoga and how do we teach it?
In the introductory session, students will reflect on the possible conceptions of prenatal yoga and begin to develop their personal prenatal yoga teaching philosophy. After a comprehensive overview of the physiology and anatomy of pregnancy and the birth process we will consider what implications these facts have for the design of a prenatal yoga class. The session will end with an introduction to some common elements of prenatal yoga classes, followed by a presentation of how prenatal yoga as taught at tranquil space.

Prenatal yoga day 2
In this second session, we will discuss the concepts of ‘prenatal yoga’ and ‘preparing for birth with yoga’ and consider how these two elements are related, how they may be integrated in a prenatal class. We will also examine how to include a partner in a prenatal class and discuss assists in prenatal classes. In this session, students will also finalize their prenatal yoga teaching philosophy and spend a portion of their time teaching a practice class.

Postnatal Teacher Training Module

Postnatal yoga day 1: elements of teaching a postnatal yoga class
In this session, we will consider why it is important to offer postnatal yoga classes, what asana modifications are best for the postnatal body and how the baby and a partner can be included in a yoga practice. We will discuss the physical and emotional impacts the birth process has on a woman’s body as well as some developmental milestones of babies 0-12 months.

Postnatal yoga day 2: developing your own postnatal yoga class
This session will include a practical demonstration of how a baby can be included in asana practice as well as suggestions for playful interaction with the child. Students will spend some time developing and reflecting on their own philosophy of teaching such a class. In the final segment of the training, students will teach a short postnatal yoga class to the group and provide feedback to each other.

$400 for prenatal module; $295 for postnatal module.
