Isle of Wight County Parks and Recreation offers a wide variety of programs and classes for your leisure needs. From Aerobics to Specialty camps we are certain you will find something to enjoy!

PROGRAMS

Kangaroo Kidz – Kangaroo Kidz offers a fun and safe environment for children at Carrsville Elementary School only. During the program children will have time for games, arts and crafts, and homework. This program is open to Carrsville students kindergarten-5th grade. Fees: Before and After $50 per week. Before or After $30 per week, one time registration fee of $10 due at the time of enrollment. GED Classes – Otelia J. Rainey Community Center, Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:30 pm-8:00 pm during the school year. Call 757-569-9810 for more information.

Gracious Living – Boomer Activities/Social Group meeting Tuesday-Thursday at the Otelia J. Rainey Community Center (Camptown Park) 10am-2pm

CLASSES

Senior Aerobics – Meet new people and stay in shape at the same time! This class begins with warm up exercises to get your heart rate up and gain flexibility. Then, we cool down with low-impact dance and exercise moves (standing or sitting in a chair). Participate at a level and pace that is comfortable for you. Experienced and inexperienced participants are welcome! On-going registration, cost is $26 or a six week session; Ages: 55 and up. Morning Classes only. Nike Park

Zumba – Ditch the workout, and still burn up to 1, 000 calories while having fun in this energetic class. Class begins at 6:00 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays at Nike Park The cost is $5 per class.

Mixed Martial Arts – Mixed Martial Arts combines the striking found in Kickboxing, Karate and Tae Kwon Do, with the ground fighting and submissions found in Jujitsu, Judo and Aikido. Hapkido is a Korean traditional mixed martial arts as well as the history, philosophy and terminology of traditional martial arts. These classes improve physical fitness, endurance, flexibility, concentration, respect and humility in students while at the same time teaches valuable self defense and sport applications. Classes are Thursday nights from 6:30 pm-8:00 pm. at Nike Park. The cost is:

  • 1 person $50
  • 2 in family $80
  • 3 in family $90
  • family of 4 or more $100

Dog Obedience Training – Do you have a new puppy that needs training to become a Canine good citizen, or an old dog that wants to learn new tricks? Bring them out to Nike Park on Sunday afternoons, and Thursday evenings for a six week fun filled learning experience for both you and your dog. You along with your pet will learn from a certified evaluator for therapy dog International and Canine Good Citizens. All dogs must be at least six months old, and up-to-date on all shots.

Cost: $125 (if your pet was adopted an Animal Shelter, SPCA, or an animal rescue the cost is $100)

Hours: Sunday Dog Obedience Classes 1:00 pm-2:00 pm/Puppy Training Classes 2:30 pm-3:30 pm

Tennis – Tennis lessons for individuals 6 years old to Adult. Lessons are from June-October at Nike Park and Riverview Park. Classes are taught by a certified USTA instructor with years of experience teaching youth and adults. Classes are held on Monday evenings at Riverview Park and Tuesday evenings at Nike Park. Yoga at Nike Park

Introduction to Yoga: Mondays 10:00 am-11:00 am- This class will start from the ground up, keeping an eye on your alignment every step of the way. You will discover how your breath can ease not only your mind, but help you deepen into your practice as well. Suitable for all levels.
