Begin your inner journey NOW!

Ongoing, Drop-in Classes: No registration or payment required before attending.
Attend a drop-in class and pay on a per class basis or with Class Card. The Yoga Center accepts cash & checks. You may purchase a Class Card online with credit card or check or at class with cash or check.

Series Classes: Registration with payment needed before attending.
(Including Yoga Foundations for Beginners)
Register and pay for a group/session of 6-8 classes, one per week. Pre-pay at the time of registration. No spaces will be held without pre-payment. Please register with payment before that date. If we do not have the minimum of 5 students by the deadline, the series will be canceled and your payment refunded to you or you may request a credit. If you would like to sample a class, provided we have the minimum number of 5 students, you may join the first class of the series and decide after that class whether or not to commit to the series.

Special Event Classes: Registration with payment needed before attending.
(Visit Special Events page for more information on classes available.)
Workshops and special events require a minimum of 5 students. If that minimum is not met 5 days before the day of the workshop or event, it will be canceled and your payment refunded to you or you may request a credit.

Private Sessions: Classes by appointment.
Individual Yoga Sessions are for the student who has a special situation or one who would like to work individually with a teacher. If you have been practicing with a video or book and want the eyes and hands of a teacher to help you with alignment, this is for you. Maybe you prefer individual attention to the distraction of other students in a class setting. This is how the lineage of yoga was passed on, from teacher to student, one on one.

Debbie Stevens is available for Individual Yoga Sessions. Individual yoga sessions are one hour in length and by appointment only. The fee is $50. A private yoga session for 2 students is $70 per hour. Pre-payment is required when the appointment is made.

SAVE!
When you commit to 3 (three) private yoga sessions, the fee is $125.

Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy is an opportunity to deepen the yoga experience. Phoenix Rising is based on the body/mind connection. Working in yoga poses with the breath and assistance of the practitioner, the recipient may feel releases in the physical body, in the emotional body, or may simply feel very relaxed.

This process uses assisted yoga postures with mindful breathing and active listening techniques to tap into the body's well-spring of knowledge. Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy is a transformational experience. I have often found students are drawn to this technique when they are in transition or thinking of making changes in their lives.

Debbie is available for Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy sessions, which are one and a half hours in length. The fee is $75 per session. Pre-payment is required when the appointment is made.

Yoga Party!
Yoga parties offered in your home or office. Engage a yoga teacher to lead guests through relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, stretches and ways to manage stress. According to USA Today (June 21, 2002), Yoga parties are "yet another manifestation of yoga's growing popularity...people are looking for more in stress reduction and maybe something that will touch their spirituality, allow them to look inward a bit...a yoga party is an unusual way to make merry, but it just might be the next big thing for those who want a healthy alternative to the typical hung-over-the-next morning kind of party."

Call Debbie today at 345-4090 or e-mail her at debbie@TheYogaCenterInc.com to schedule your party today!

Fee: $75 for one hour yoga party. You invite the guests. You may serve healthy refreshments afterwards. Debbie does the yoga part!

Payment: The Yoga Center accepts cash & checks. We accept Visa and MasterCard online only. Go to the Register for Classes page to register online using your credit card! To pay by check, mail to: P.O. Box 8341, Roanoke, VA 24014.

Yoga Foundations with Debbie ~ (Series) This series is for the absolute Beginner to Yoga, as it introduces students to these concepts: noticing sensations in the body and proper alignment of the body, bringing awareness to the breath and stilling the "monkey mind". Also offered are the alignment cues for how to practice the following groups of poses: standing, balancing, back bending, forward folding, twisting postures as well as inversions. This class incorporates the Kripalu Yoga concept of self determination and encourages the student to ascertain what is best in her or his individual body. Stress reduction and relaxation are an integral part of each class. Next Session begins Monday, Jan. 9 or Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012

*Yoga 1 with Karen ~ (Series) Karen introduces basic concepts of Anusara Yoga, using alignment of the body as well as breath. This is a heart-based practice and focuses on spirals in the body. Next Session begins Tuesday, Jan. 10 & Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012

Yoga 1/2 with Karen ~ (Series) Mixed Level. This class is for the student who wishes to take their practice to a deeper level and play with more challenging postures. Next Session begins Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012

*Yin Yoga with Debbie - (Series) practice combines traditional yoga poses with Oriental Meridian Theory and Taoist philosophy. Poses are mainly practiced seated on the floor and with longer holding. The intention of this practice is to work on joints and their connective tissues rather than muscles and bones. Organs are also nourished as energy in the body is released. Yin Yoga combines the coolness of Yin with the heat of a more Yang practice. In this series, we explore the relationship between these 2 opposing, yet complementary energies in the body that help create a whole vital being. Attention is paid to breathing as well as alignment. Focus is on the particular energy of the poses. The result is a radiant, vibrant, refreshed body, mind and spirit. There is no music in this class. There is frequently reading from a yoga philosophy book, a yogic novel or poetry. Next Session begins Monday, Jan. 9, 2012

Wake up Yoga with Gail Steele ~ (series) Gail brings her knowledge of yoga and Ayurveda into the yoga space, with awareness on body and breath. Next session begins Monday, Jan. 9, 2012

Yoga for Life with Debbie ~ (drop-in) Mixed Level. These classes are the natural next step after Yoga Foundations, as they utilize beginning concepts of yoga with more advanced concepts such as vinyasa or moving with breathing, ujayyi breathing and drishti or focusing on an object. This practice is more meditative in nature while honoring each student's own needs and abilities. We continue to explore and work on more challenging poses including inversions such as head stand. Focus on postures, breathing techniques and yoga philosophy encourages students to practice at home while incorporating yoga into his or her lifestyle.

Yoga for Everyone with Debbie ~ (ongoing drop-in) This monthly FREE class combines warm-ups Kripalu style or Yin style with vinyasa - linking breathing with movement, as well as holding poses in stillness. This class is geared for multi-levels so that each practitioner may step down or up according to her or his own needs. Beginners welcome.

Gentle Yoga with Debbie - (ongoing drop-in) incorporates movements designed to stretch and strengthen muscles and open and create space in the joints.   Body alignment is emphasized in the postures, and breath work completes the practice by increasing circulation and decreasing stress. It works well for anyone desiring a slow, mindful practice. This a good class for Beginners and Seniors. Although this class is not a Chair Yoga class, some of the poses can be adapted to a chair. A chair may be used as a prop to transition from floor to standing.

Pilates mat class with Stacy ~ (ongoing drop-in) Pilates helps align the spine and accommodate imbalances. It strengthens and stretches muscles, while toning the core of the body. Pilates improves posture and your health . Pilates began as rehabilitative exercise and continues to serve the same purpose.

Hatha Yoga with Virginia ~ (ongoing drop-in) A program for all levels, with emphasis on abdominal and back strengthening, to improve core strength, increase balance and enhance the posture. We will also address fatigue and/or pain in the back, all done with basic yoga postures.

Hatha Yoga and Meditation with John Kortmulder ~ (ongoing drop-in) John brings his awareness of the breath to the mat. He teaches a class focused on the breath and holding poses, with a meditative quality. Beginners are encouraged to attend his classes.
